Did you know Rosa Parks did yoga?
Black women BEEN doing yoga!
My yoga practice began some years ago, but I did not truly discover how relevant it was to Black women until Stephanie Evans published Black Women's Yoga History: Memoirs of Inner Peace. This book exposed me to stories from Black women, known and unknown, about yoga's impact on their lives. For the first time, I felt seen!
Black women may not always feel welcome in yoga studios. Still, a large community of us provides spaces and opportunities to practice yoga in culturally-tailored and loving ways.
If you're looking for:
Improved mental, physical, and spiritual health outcomes;
Heightened self-awareness;
A resistance practice;
An easily accessible self-care practice; or
Overall increased wellness
Yoga may be for you!
